Cornelis de Heem Painting Reproductions 1 of 1
1631-1695
Dutch Baroque Painter
Cornelis de Heem was born in 1631 in Utrecht, the Netherlands and was the son of a prominent flower painter, David de Heem. He was trained by his father in the art of painting and went on to work in Antwerp and Paris, where he was heavily influenced by the work of Flemish still-life painters such as Jan Davidsz de Heem and Willem Kalf. He is known for his meticulous and intricate still-life paintings that often feature an abundance of luxurious objects, such as exotic fruits, flowers, glassware, and silverware.
De Heem's style is characterized by his use of light and color, which he used to create a sense of depth and luminosity in his paintings. He was also known for his ability to paint objects with great detail and accuracy, which he used to create a sense of realism in his work. In addition to his still-life paintings, de Heem also created genre scenes and portraits.
De Heem was a highly successful artist during his lifetime, and his works were sought after by collectors and patrons throughout Europe. Despite his success, much of his personal life remains unknown, and there is limited information available about his family and background. Nevertheless, his work continues to be highly regarded by art historians and collectors and is considered to be some of the finest examples of Dutch Baroque still-life painting.
